Special Projects identifies and champions strategic projects that accelerate Framework implementation and act as catalysts for new investment. Because the city’s evolution is dynamic, the Special Projects program cultivates broad relationships and maintains flexibility to respond to opportunities that otherwise might go unrealized.
Every project is unique and requires different tactics. Special Projects help advance these initiatives by:
- Creating and maintaining partnerships with and between community groups, businesses, development interests and city departments as an organizational foundation for planning and project work.
- Acting as a project liaison, designing an effective process, convening meetings of interested and/or concerned stakeholders to build project momentum or help resolve conflicts, as needed.
- Leading or aiding the fundraising for key projects.
Through these actions, the Riverfront Corporation has played a vital role in projects such as the $14.5 million renovation of Harriet Island Regional Park, the $4.2 million redevelopment of the former Firstar Bank site, now named Landmark Plaza, the $3.4 million Raspberry Island park renovation and the $3 million rivers edge improvements for Upper Landing.
