The Gateway through the Levee on Harriet Island connected the West Side to the Mississippi River and eased pedestrian traffic at the Taste of Minnesota.

The Fillmore Dinner has grown to a soldout, 1,600 guest annual affair in May.

Saint Paul's newest downtown park, Landmark Plaza, opened in May 2003.

2000-2003: Maintaining the Momentum   

The Corporation continued to assist the community in maintaining the momentum of its redevelopment agenda. Through the strong partnerships between many organizations, Saint Paul's renaissance has become a reality. The Riverfront Corporation will continue to be the keeper of the Framework and to serve as the catalyst that drives the Framework implementation toward sustainability.

Some milestone accomplishments and activities during this period are:

  • The first phase of the $80 million North Quadrant area neared completion of the 115 units of mixed-income housing and green space.
  • Work on the new $170 million Upper Landing urban village began in May 2001. It will have 600 units of housing and 23,000 square feet of retail space.
  • Construction began in October 2001 on the new 500,000 square foot U.S. Bank processing center on the West Side Flats which will be home to 2,000 employees and will be surrounded by retail, housing and green space.
  • The successful $14.5 million Harriet Island Community Campaign, was completed. More than 2000 individuals, corporations, and foundations participated in the fund raising effort.
  • The Grand Excursion 2004 initiative continued to expand securing 39 cities and 14 regional organizations in four states. Locally, 100 organizations have pledged over 120 projects to the Saint Paul initiative, making the city a better place to live, work and play.
  • The Pedestrian Gateway through the Levee on Harriet Island, connecting the West Side neighborhood to the Mississippi had its grand opening.
  • Over 15,000 people attended the Target Stage grand opening and annual Saturday after Labor Day Minnesota Orchestra Concert and Fireworks on Harriet Island.
  • Hosted the seventh, eighth and ninth annual Millard Fillmore dinner, attended by over 1,600 people.
  • Design was finalized for the Firstar site redevelopment and a fundraising campaign was launched with John Murphy (U.S. Bank) and Pat Donovan as Co-Chairs. 
  • Landmark Plaza opened in May 2003
  • U.S. Bank West Side Flats Operations Center held a community open house to celebrate the opening of their new riverfront facility.  The Riverfront Corporation helped organize the event that introduced U.S. Bank to the community and informed them about the unique features of the new facility.
